On September 9-13, 2019 twenty-third session of the UNWTO General Assembly took place in Saint Petersburg. This important global meeting of senior tourism officials and high-level representatives of the year was organized for the first time in Russia. Three global associations serving the International Meetings Industry will collaborate more closely in the future: UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry), ICCA (The International Congress and Convention Association), and AIPC (The International Association of Convention Centres) agreed to launch a Global Alliance.
The International Congress and Convention Association has published its country and city rankings by estimated total number of participants as part of its public abstract of the 2018 statistics report, offering an alternative perspective on the growth of the association meetings market.
Asia Pacific’s newest world-class convention centre Te Pae Christchurch is now 50% complete and on track for opening in October 2020. Te Pae will feature a 1,400 seat auditorium, over 3,000 square metres of exhibition space and 24 meeting rooms.
