On September 9-13, 2019 twenty-third session of the UNWTO General Assembly took place in Saint Petersburg. This important global meeting of senior tourism officials and high-level ‎representatives of the year was organized for the first time in Russia. The General Assembly is the supreme organ of UNWTO, its ordinary sessions are held every two years and are attended by delegates from UNWTO members, as well as by representatives from UNWTO affiliate members.

According to the latest analysis from the World Tourism Organization, 40% of all destinations worldwide have now eased the restrictions they placed on international tourism in response to COVID-19. The data shows that by already by the end of May, the pandemic had led to US$320 billion in lost revenues, already three times the cost of the 2009 Global Economic Crisis.

In recent years, the programme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum has always included discussions of the tourism and hospitality industry. Last year's debate on the role of tourism in the economy was attended by Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization. The 2017 programme turned out to be no exception.

From July 1, 2013, Priority Club Rewards will be rebranded and renamed IHG Rewards Club. Rebranding will strengthen the link between InterContinental Hotels Group and all of those brands.

InterContinental Hotels Group has launched a new design concept called H4. In order to anticipate as much as possible the future guests’ needs, H4 design has been developed together with the owners and frequent guests of Holiday Inn hotels.
